Beyond coal: a turning point in employment opportunities for working-class women in Wales.

The Second World, like the first, provided women with jobs – for example in munitions factories. However, post-war prospects were less bleak in 1945 than they had been in 1918 because of the post-war growth of light industry in South Wales, offering real employment opportunities for women in Wales for the first time.
