On taking up her position as president of the North Wales Women’s Temperance Union, Mrs. James Hughes devoted much of her speech to the suffrage issue: “We may speak and work as we will, but until we can follow up our work with our votes we shall constantly be set aside…There is no way of securing the rights we already possess to serve God and Humanity, but by striving incessantly until the full rights of citizenship are accorded to us”.
